Manscaping by Laser Hair Removal Miami ™

A few years ago, the term “manscaping” was a taboo subject. Many men (straight and gay alike) sought out laser hair removal treatments in the Greater Miami area, but preferred not to make it public knowledge. Today, things have changed! At our Miami based med spa, there is almost an equal amount of men-to-women ratio with respect to laser hair removal treatments. The reasons men are now seeking laser treatments to get rid of unwanted hair varies; from annoying, unsightly hair, to the most prominent problem, painful ingrowns!
Laser hair removal treatments is the IDEAL method to help men deal with ingrowns due to shaving. African-American men greatly suffer from ingrowns. If you’re a man (light, dark or black skin toned) considering laser hair removal treatments, here are a few helpful facts you should consider:
- The only laser technology you should consider is the CoolGlide ™. Why? Because it delivers! It is not an IPL! IPL’s do not deliver permanent hair reduction. It also is the only laser technology approved by the FDA to safely treat all skin colors without causing any skin discoloration. Additionally, as the name implies, it’s handpiece is cool, delivering a more comfortable treatment, as the handpiece is glided across your skin during treatment, the built-in cooling mechanism immediately cools the treated area, reducing any pain or discomfort.
- Laser treatments can cover all areas, from head-to-toe (including the genitals), however, never have the eyebrows done, it is too close to the eyes, and poses greater risk. At Bay Harbour Med Spa ™, it is our policy to NOT treat any areas around the eyes!
We sincerely hope that this short article has helped you in making your decision with respect to laser hair removal treatments. Here’s to the new, bare skinned you!
Cheers,
Shaving Tips To Avoid Ingrowns

Shaving tips that may help prevent ingrown hairs on the face include:
- Avoid repeated razor strokes over the same area
- Shave only in one direction and in the direction of hair growth
- Use a moisturizer to soften the beard/ hair before shaving or shave after showering to make shaving easier
Topical therapies: At Laser Hair Removal Miami, LLC., we offer exfoliating lotions which are plant or fruit derived (we recommend some kind of a papaya enzyme exfoliation product) . This is an ideal moisturizing and exfoliating therapy for dry, rough skin on the face and is great for areas that are prone to ingrown hairs.
In clinic therapies: For areas that are prone to ingrown hairs and are resistant to topical treatment, laser hair removal with the NdYag laser improves the problem significantly. This treatment is appropriate for any skin type especially in people of color who are more prone to this problem. This superior hair removal treatment is unique as it is safe, relatively painless and longer lasting. Unlike other hair removal procedures laser hair removal does not cause harsh side effects that other methods present, such as ingrown hairs, skin irritation or bleeding.
If you suffer from ingrown hairs, are a black male or female (African-Americans are more prone to ingrown) and live in the Miami or Miami Beach area/s, Laser Hair Removal Miami, LLC., can help you deal with this often troublesome hair condition. If you don’t live in the South Florida area, we suggest that you seek out a med spa which utilizes the CoolGlide laser technology. Is Microdermabrasion Suitable For Men?
Copyright 2008. All rights reserved.
What is Microdermabrasion and what are it’s affects on the skin?
The skin is the largest organ in the skin. It serves many important functions including protecting the body from infections and regulating body temperature. Despite its resiliency, skin can be damaged by hormonal changes, exposure to environmental elements and aging. If the appearance of your skin has been affected because of these factors than a procedure called microdermabrasion may help.
How does Bay Harbour Med Spa’s signature Crystal Microdermabrasion work?
During the microdermabrasion sessions which generally last for about an hour and a half ( and should encompass the face, neck and decolte) a jet of very fine crystals is emitted across the surface of the skin which removes impurities and imperfections. It feels like light suction or sandblasting. The discarded crystals and skin debris are simultaneously vacuumed into a receptacle and are later disposed.
Because Crystal Microdermabrasion allows for controlled removal of the outer most layer of the skin there is little pain involved and the improvement of the skin can be seen immediately. However, several treatments ( usually 10) are necessary to achieve desired results.
The benefits of Crystal Microdermabrasion?
The benefits of microdermabrasion are the reduction and erasing of:
acne problem skin
acne scarring
sum damage
enlarged pores
fine lines
age spots
brown spots
stretch marks
Post-Treatment?
Your skin will feel smoother and silkier immediately after treatment. Sun exposure should be avoided. Some redness on the treated areas is to be expected and usually goes down within 24 hours.
Why Should Men Have Microdermabrasion Treatments?
Copyright 2010. All Rights Reserved.
Bay Harbour Med Spa- Miami’s leading med spa in providing microdermabrasion treatments for men has noticed a trend over the last few years. More and more men are becoming concerned with their appearance. Over the years we’ve noticed that men have significantly worse skin than women- reason being, well, it’s simple. Women are brought up from an early age to use skincare products on a regular basis. Men for the most part are not brought up to be conscious of their skin- thus, poor skin care leads to a build up of dead cells on male skin, which, in turn, makes the skin appear dull and prone to premature aging.
Another reason that men should practice proper skin care is that they shave regularly, which cause irritations and ingrown hairs. These factors cause added stress to the skin. Therefore, microdermabrasion is appropriate for men just as it is for women, the treatment is identical in nature for both genders.
Bay Harbour Med Spa answers some common questions about Miami’s leading facial treatment for men:
Does Crystal Microdermabrasion TM reduce wrinkles?
It has been useful in removing superficial wrinkles. However, deeper wrinkles would require plastic surgery.
How can Crystal Microdermabrasion TM help even out skin tone?
The flow of the crystals abrade the top layer of the skin where unevenly pigmented skin cells reside.
What are the advantages of Crystal Microdermabrasion TM?
First, and foremost, the risks and side effects are minimal. It is controlled by the person performing the treatment, thus, it does not penetrate beyond the first layer of the skin. It can safely be performed on all skin types and colors.
How Can Men Achieve Trimmer Waistlines?
Copyright 2010. All rights reserved.
For years Bay Harbour Med Spa has been providing expert men’s skin care in Miami, Florida- we do so through mechanical ( such as the use of devices) as well as through natural methods. After each of our treatments, we offer all of our patrons herbal teas, for 34 years we’ve done this- the result is that we’ve discovered that our loyal male patrons achieved trimmer waistlines through drinking herbal tea. Yes, you read correctly, through drinking herbal tea.
According to a study presented at the First International Congress on Abdominal Obesity- men who drink more than two cups of tea daily have trimmer waistlines than men who consume caffeine or no tea at all. It is common knowledge that excess fat around the waistline can be linked to an increased risk of diabetes and heart disease.
We suggest organic green tea with honey, stay away from sugar- sugar hastens the aging process ( more blogs to follow on this topic) not to mention that it contributes to a bulging stomach and larger waistline.
Men’s Skin……..What’s The Difference?
Copyright 2010. All rights reserved.
So what’s the first step in understanding men’s skin? Firstly, we must consider male hormones- androgens and testosterone. These hormones attach to receptor sites in the epidermis and dermis ( skin layers).
Testosterone action causes some noticeable differences in male skin physiology. In the epidermis, testosterone increases the number of granular cells and in the dermis, testosterone increases the amount of collagen produced and stimulates blood flow. So you’re probably asking what’s the connection with the skin? Well, with respect to the sebaceous glands, testosterone stimulates the production of sebum and in the hair follicle, testosterone toughens the hair. Essentialy, mens’ skin differs from women’s skin in several ways:
Men’s Skin Is Oilier: men’s skin has higher secretion levels of sebum. Oilier skin is prone to acne and blemishes. Acne face treatments and specific facials customized for men can help with this issue.
Men have more facial hair: Generally, men have coarser facial hair, largely in part becuase it’s toughened by testosterone. The concern for men is pseudofolliculitis ( ingrown hairs)- this is where coarse hair hardened by testosterone curls back or grows sideways under the skin. This is mainly caussed by shaving. Laser hair removal is a very helpful treatment for men’s ingrown hair issues.
Men’s skin tends to be more sensitive: men tend to experience skin sensitivity at higher rates than women. Men are more prone to redness and under eye pufiness. Environmental factors coupled with shaving result in sensitivity. Skin products customized specifically made for men’s skin can help with these issues. Bay Harbour Med Spa cusomized an organic product line called Ckronos which has yielded phenomenol results specific to men’s skin.
Men’s skin is thicker: male skin develops more collagen than that of it’s female counterpart, resulting in a thicker epidermis. The downside of thicker skin is that this results in deeper facial lines as they prematurely age as well as more age spots. Sun protection and Crystal Microdermabrasion TM can help combat these issues.
Skin care for men needs to be specific, it needs to be delivered with purpose- expert men’s skin care comes with experience.
