Are You A Woman and Suffer From Decreased Sex Drive?

Recently one of our forty something year old clients came into our Miami med spa for an appointment. She expressed to us that she had no interest in sex, that she had gained weight, experienced fatigue and excessive night sweat. The truth of the matter is that most physicians will attribute it to aging and probably prescribe a multivitamin coupled with asking you to resign to the fact that you’re getting older. Actually, these signs are related to a decrease in anti-aging hormones such as estrogen, progesterone, growth hormone and testosterone. Although it should be noted that decreased energy and weight gain may be attributed to an under active thyroid.
Proper hormone replacement therapy can help correct decreased libido. Laser Hair Removal Miami, LLC., recommends James Cennamo, an anti-aging aka hormone replacement specialty physician, to help determine which hormones your body is deficient in. If you don’t live in the South Florida area, you can use the same information we are providing you with here and find an anti-aging physician in your home town.
If your sex hormones are deficient, your anti-aging physician can prescribe you the right dose of bioidentical hormones or suggest the right type of supplements.
So, what are bioidentical hormones?
Basically, the structure of bioidentical hormones are identical to our human hormones such as estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. They are not synthetic hormones such as Premarin or Prempro.
Your anti-aging physician will run a battery of blood tests which will be extensive in nature. We have personally experienced the benefits of bioidentical hormone therapy and quite a few of our clients have as well.
Stress and pre-mature aging, is there a link?

At Bay Harbour Med Spa, many of our Miami clientelle come in for authentic European facials, or specialized face treatments such as Crystal Microdermabrasion TM or our deluxe ultrasonic face and neck treatment. In the last few years, with the downfall of the economy, we’ve realized that there’s a common denominator between all of our clients, no matter which treatment they seek, the symptoms of pre-mature aging due to stress was shared by many clients of all age groups.
Anti-aging is the benefactor of stress. Stress causes the release of steroid hormones, such as cortisol, into the bloodstream. This has many age promoting effects, including increased blood sugar, inflammation and cravings. It also slows metabolism and pumps fats into the liver.
The result is a self-perpetuating cycle of stress, weight gain, inflammation and more stress, which means accelerated aging. Thre are many products on the market to help reduce stress and support relaxation. One recent study from Japan, demonstrated that the consumption of green tea has a significant soothing effect on stress.
Other stress-relieving ingredients to look for include the following:
- Chamomile tea is widely known for its relaxing properties.
- Passion flower tea has relaxing and anti-addictive properties, and is used extensively in Europe to help patients recover from addictions.
- L-theanine is an amino acid from green tea and has been clinically proven to provide an alert sense of relaxation without drowsiness.
- Green tea has been shown to instill a sense of well-being and ease mental distress.
- Finally, if the stress you’re under causes you to experience anxiety, Bay Harbour Med Spa highly recommends a cd collection by a renowned therapist in Miami Beach, Roberta Shapiro. Roberta Shapiro has also compiled a free eBook full of techniques she’s amassed in her years as a psychotherapist. Mrs. Shapiro offers these techniques free of charge with the hope that every person suffering from excessive anxiety or worry. There is no obligation what so ever and we highly recommend this eBook, to download your free copy, please click HERE.
Antioxidants, anti-aging and skin care…….

For years Bay Harbour Med Spa has actively tried to educate our clients about proper skin care and nutrition- these two elements combined help a person fight aging head on. So, let’s take a look at what antioxidants do, what they are and how they can help you live a healthier life…………………
What is an antioxidant?
Let’s break down the word, anti and oxidant- oxygen is essential to the human body, when the molecules within the cells encounter oxygen, a reaction occurs and a free radical is produced. This process is known as oxidation ( this process occurs from breathing and metabolism, known as endogenous factors); however, oxidation also occurs from exogenous factors ( occuring outside of the body), such as from excessive sun exposure, pollution and exposure to cigarette smoke. Another important factore in oxidation is the natural aging process.
What are free radicals?
Free radicals are unstable atoms or molecules characterized by at least one upaired electron. These free radicals cause damage to the cells of the body which can lead to disease, some examples- heart disease, parkinson’s disease and even cancer. Not to mention the leading cause of aging.
How do free radicals contribute to pre-mature aging?
In skin, free radicals lead to the breakdown of collagen and elastin, resulting in the development of fine lines and wrinkles.
What do antioxidants do?
Antioxidants neutrolize endogenous factors ( happening within the body) by providing electrons and free radicals, thereby disabling and preventing cell damage.
What type of antioxidants are used in Bay Harbour Med Spa’s face treatments?
Bay Harbour Med Spa proudly provides face treatments available to our Miami and Miami Beach clientele utilizing pure (organic) antioxidant derivatives such as Vitamin A, C and E as well as betacarotene extracts penetrated straight into the skin during our Ultrasonic Facials. More on these treatments can be found in our blog.
Antioxidants and the body………..are you ingesting enough?
It is estimated that only about 33% of the ault population is getting the recommended allowance of fruit and only about 27% is getting the recommended amount from vegetables. In order to determine whether or not we get enough antioxidants in our diet, the ORAC scale is used (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity)- according to this scale, the top five foods for antioxidant are:
- Ground cloves
- Sumac
- Ground cinnamon
- Sorghum
- Dried oregano
Additonal antioxidants one should incorporate into their daily diet are:
- Acai berry
- Pomegrante berry
- Goji berry
Additional information can be found at: http://oracvalues.com. You should always consult with a physician before taking any type of vitamins or changing your diet.
